Hello Mr Frank,
My name is Tijnke van Gelder, in my free time I’m a freelance graphic designer, who enjoys film & photography, I’m in a band and I like spending my time going to festivals.
Recently I graduated from the Design Academy, where I was trained as a multidisciplinary designer. Here I learned the basic skills in product design and later on focused on communication design. As my graduation project I have written, directed and produced my own science fiction film. This project resulted in a half-hour film where I gained a lot of experience in no-budget productions. The film is released this October during the graduation show in the Dutch Design Week.
In addition to my experiences in design and film, I set up the Kazerne Young organisation in early 2016. Within Kazerne young, we organised events where we could offer young creatives a stage for their work. From the Dutch Design Week to a monthly "Young talks".
In 2017 I started to help a few different collectives that organise parties in Amsterdam, mainly for the Silent Disco, from small production-oriented tasks, to building podiums and the promotion of the events.
The internship that I followed during my bachelor, in Amsterdam, was with the company Monnik. Monnik organises workshops and projects on the theme of future & fiction. Here I was in charge of the communication for the workshops and I have been busy with creative writing and concept visualisations. In spring of 2018 I joined an agency for hostess work in and around Amsterdam.
The reason I apply for this internship is that I want to gain more work experience in the field of film making. I know that my design background seems to connect a bit difficult with film (production), but I believe that the skills I have could be of great use. For me, it's about the way you approach something, which defines better what designer you are or are not. I like to continue learning about the different ways in which you can analyse and communicate, that's why I started to be intrigued in video's / film.
Since I want to do a masters in film, I feel that this year could be a great opportunity for me to get more familiar with the production side of it. Besides, Hello Mr Frank is the kind of company I can imagine myself working for. From a purely aesthetic point of view to the kind of projects your company is involved in.
Hopefully I can come over and introduce myself (I’m more fun in person),
With kind regards,
Tijnke van Gelder
